"Boat People Retrospective" tại Library of Congress ngày 2 tháng 5, 2009 Kính chào Việt Nam Thư Quán và tất cả các bạn đọc Việt Nam Thư Quán tuy không gia nhập. Thuyền Nhân xin được mời quý vị cùng tham gia dự án "Boat People Retrospective" do Thư Viện Quốc Hội Hoa Kỳ và một số người Việt tỵ nạn cùng nhiều hội đoàn Việt Nam tự do tổ chức. Chương trình dự trù khai mạc ngày 2 tháng 5, 2009 tại Jefferson Building, Library of Congress, với Symposium và sau đó là cuộc triển lãm mọi hình ảnh, sách báo, tài liệu, kỷ vật, phim ảnh liên hệ đến người Việt tỵ nạn. Mục đích chính của chương trình là để các thế hệ người Mỹ gốc Việt sau này hiểu được một phần rất quan trọng trong lịch sử chúng ta.
Xin quý vị vui lòng xếp đặt thời giờ tham dự, và ngay lúc này có thể tham gia bằng cách viết bài về các kỷ niệm của chính bạn hay của người bạn biết, trong hành trình vượt biên, vượt biển. Quý mạnh thường quân không viết bài cũng có thể đóng góp tài vật cho chương trình.

A Symposium
The thrust of the symposium is to recreate the times and to recall our lives in the homeland before we had to exit to survive. “What my Grandparents remember…” “Left Behind” “Walking to Survive” “The Interminable Flight to Freedom” “Morong, Bataan” These are examples of possible narrative essays that explore the times before rumors of the division “North and South” and the journey we were forced to embark in order to preserve our families and our lives. The purpose is to address listeners who are half a century removed from the experience of Vietnam Divided and the Fall of Saigon. The stories are not scholastic papers but narratives to uncover the personal stories behind the familiar headlines; expose the myths before and after the Vietnam War. The audience will not be only from within our communities, but a new generation of young adults who never experienced war and its aftermath. Attendees will be scholars, historians, researchers, community members, students, artists, writers and many from various communities. Let us ransack our memories and release the ghosts that we’ve hidden. Let us share our stories of survival. Let us remember the neighboring countries who sheltered and clothed us. Let us not forget that other peoples in the world who are also in flight just to escape violence and wars.
